Redefining Leadership in NC

latinaleaders.jpgpremio11.jpgSince we are talking about appreciating diversity this week, I was happy to learn that The Latin American Women’s Club of NC is hosting another event to recognize and support the efforts and talents of the Hispanic women, who with leadership and optimism, work for the well-being of their family, and are models of overcoming adversity and pride for the community. My friend Nora Hernandez has worked tirelessly, for years, to provide programs and services to Hispanic women in the state. I began volunteering with her club while in college and am so proud of her hard work and dedication to women.Whether they are born here or migrate to the U.S., I think that Latinas stand out because of the unique gifts, qualities and attitudes that are reflective of their culture.  As a Latina, I find that our cultural background makes us stronger, more likely to adapt in any environment and helps us create strong family-like bonds with others. On May 9th, The Latin American Women’s Club “LAWC”, The Mental Health Association in North Carolina “MHA/NC” private industries and other organizations, will host a black tie event to present the Latin American Women’s Excellence Awards to exceptional Hispanic women in North Carolina.

It’s always inspiring to hear of positive recognition programs, like this one, taking place in the Triangle. I look forward to finding out who this year’s winners are…
